Katie | The Literacy Camp Owner & Co-Founder
Oh hey there! I’m Katie & I co-founded The Literacy Camp back in 2014! Why? I wanted to be a part of the solution.
I saw teachers & families frustrated by learning loss happening over the summer (on average in the US it’s 36%!!!) when kids lacked summer reading & writing opportunities.
I saw a need for summer camps for children that LOVED to read, write & learn and just couldn’t find a special place to thrive in these areas over the summer.
I heard families wishing it were easier to get kids to WANT to learn, LOVE learning & become LIFELONG learners.
So…The Literacy Camp was born with the mission to provide families & communities with a summer camp experience that engages kids in a way parents AND kids LOVE! We grow & develop a LOVE fore reading & writing!
It’s my honor to have now created access to The Literacy Camp for more kids than ever before.
I’ve got a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Hope College & a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from MSU – with a Literacy & Language emphasis & a BR Reading Specialist certification. I love making learning FUN!

Miss Jaclyn | The Literacy Camp Director
Hey there, I’m Miss Jaclyn! I’ve been the resident Director at The Literacy Camp for 3 years now!
I’ve also served on staff at my church as the Assistant Kids Director & Media Assistant & have been a substitute teacher in the area. I’m originally from Illinois where I earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology & married my husband, Chase. I enjoy organizing lesson plans & crafts, working with kids of all ages, supporting & encouraging amazing educators I work with, and making learning FUN & accessible for all kids. I especially LOVE seeing them learn & grow!
My favorite role, however, is being a wife & mama to my 14, 12, and 4 year old. Even though they produce a ridiculous amount of laundry on a daily basis, taking care of them is my greatest joy! In this season of life, my hobbies involve my kiddos, including shopping sprees, watching basketball games & playing baby dolls. My family loves movie nights, swimming & going on trips together.
Oh, and our dog, Groot is often jealous of the attention the 4 year old gets & demanded to be included in my bio as my favorite dog.
I’m so very excited to work with kids, parents & teachers at Literacy Camp as Literacy Camp Director again this summer!
Miss Justine | The Literacy Camp Teacher
Hello! I’m Miss Justine and I am so excited for the opportunity to be working at the Literacy Camp again this summer!
I am a Central Michigan University alumni with my Bachelors in Elementary Education & Major in Integrated Sciences. I have taught second grade at Lockwood Elementary in Eaton Rapids for 5 years & a split first/second grade class the last 2 years! I have been volunteering in K-3 classrooms since 2012. The majority of that time was spent in third grade with my third grade teacher!
In my spare time, I enjoy puzzles, diving into a good book, running & playing countless rounds of golf. My dog, Mortimer, is my sidekick & joins me in the classroom AND on the course!
I look forward to another summer at Literacy Camp & helping provide new skills to build a love for reading & writing in our young learners!

Miss Karen | The Literacy Camp Teacher
Hi! I'm Miss Karen & I can't wait to teach at Literacy Camp again this summer!
Over my 18 years of teaching, I have taught all grades 1-8, and this year taught 1st grade! I am also a teacher to my four girls, ranging in age from 4 to 12.
Through my years of teaching, I have also enjoyed fostering a love for reading & writing in students in addition to a love of math! There is something about the joy a kid gets from reading a book, or the way that they can make words come to life in their own writing, that just makes my heart happy.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading with my girls, playing games & doing puzzles. I also love being outside & just spending time with family!
I can't wait to have fun at Literacy Camp with all the kiddos again this summer!
Miss Alli | The Literacy Camp Teacher
Hey Campers! I am Miss Alli & I am so excited to be back teaching at The Literacy Camp again this summer!
I am a Michigan State University alumni & have my bachelors in Elementary & Special Education. Go Green! I have experience teaching Kindergarten & last year moved to teach 4th grade in East Lansing!
This summer, I will spend my free time reading, spending time outdoors, crafting, and golfing. I also recently got engaged!
I can’t wait to have fun & learn with the kids in camp again this summer!
Miss McKenzie | The Literacy Camp Teacher
Hi! I'm Miss McKenzie & I am SO excited to join you at Literacy Camp this summer!
I graduated from Michigan State University (GO GREEN) with a Bachelors in Child Development & a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) minor. I have worked with children in many settings the past 8 years. I am currently teaching 3rd grade in Charlotte, where I taught 2nd grade last year! I am a new Mom to a precious boy named Tucker & a fur Mom to our yellow lab, Buzz!
In my free time, I love crafting, camping, drinking coffee, adventuring outdoors & dancing! Fun fact - Miss Katie was my one of my dance teachers in High School! :)

Mr. Josh | The Literacy Camp Teacher
Hey Camp Families, I’m Mr. Josh & I’m excited to bring some new energy to The Literacy Camp this summer!
I am the current music teacher at Hayes in Grand Ledge & taught elementary and kindergarten music for MANY years at Neff in Grand Ledge before that!
I have a bachelor’s degree from Albion college & a Master’s from Olivet. I have enjoyed 23 years of teaching in Grand Ledge with many wonderful children & families. I have a background in Education Through Music which focuses on play to promote literacy and musical learning & am excited to bring that background to Literacy Camp this summer!
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife & 2 school-age children. I also enjoy playing music with local & statewide groups. See you this summer!
Miss Stacy | The Literacy Camp Teacher
Hi there! I'm Miss Stacy, and I’m excited to be a part of the wonderful Literacy Camp again this summer! I live in Eaton Rapids with my husband, 3 kids, 2 dogs & chickens! I love working with young learners and helping them discover the magic of reading and writing. With 9 years of teaching experience, I’ve had the privilege of guiding students in a 1st-3rd grade Montessori classroom and even teaching math at the Middle School. My favorite thing about working with students is building their confidence as learners.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy reading all kinds of books, from adventure stories to funny comics, and I believe that everyone can find a story that sparks their imagination. Outside of the classroom, you’ll often find me hiking, cooking, or spending time with family.
I can’t wait to see you grow as a reader and writer this summer!
